Agribusiness and family farmers are the lifeblood of Hoosier communities. They feed our families while providing long-term employment and ongoing research and development. However, just like other businesses, farmers have to deal with oppressive federal regulations, an overly complex tax code, and extensive export restrictions.
I stand with the family farmers of the 5th District, which is why I voted for the Farm Bill in 2014 and the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act. The Farm Bill provides funding for priorities like crop insurance that will protect Hoosier Farmers. The PATH Act provides permanent and responsible tax relief to American families and business including our family farms.
The job-killing Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule is flawed and places unnecessary burdens on farmers without significantly benefitting the environment. I voted against WOTUS and will continue to fight this executive overreach and prevent implementation.
I strongly support private enterprise, the preservation of property rights, and resource conservation.
That’s why I’ll continue to work to streamline the tax and regulatory obstacles stifling our farmers, encourage development of export markets, and fight for the stable, healthy business climate farmers — and the rest of us — deserve.
I have been endorsed by Indiana Farm Bureau for the 2016 Election Cycle.
